Getting Your Certification for Special, Property, and Uninsured Motorists

You must be a member arbitrator to participate in AF's certification program and may only attain a certification in the forum(s) in which you will hear cases.

If you are not currently a member arbitrator and are interested in becoming one, read the steps on applying to become an arbitrator and submit an updated arbitrator profile form for the forums you wish to participate in.

Certification is mandatory for all Special, Uninsured Motorists, and Property arbitrators.

There are three components to all of AF's certification programs:
 
  • Claims Knowledge Exam: 25 questions on general claims principles related to the selected forum Claims Knowledge Exam: 25 questions on general claims principles related to the selected forum
  • Forum Certification Exam: 25 questions on the applicable forum's agreement and rules Forum Certification Exam: 25 questions on the applicable forum's agreement and rules
  • Simulations: Three cases that you will review and render decisions Simulations: Three cases that you will review and render decisions
Upon successful completion of all three components in your chosen track(s), you will receive the appropriate designation(s).

Special AL Certified Special Arbitrator Auto Liability (CSAA)
Special GL Certified Special Arbitrator General Liability (CSAG)
UM Certified Uninsured Motorists Arbitrator (CUMA)

Forum-Specific Certification Information

To become a certified Property Subrogation Arbitrator, complete an Arbitrator Profile Form. Upon our receipt and confirmation of qualifications, you will complete the Property Subrogation Agreement and Rules exam, the Claims Knowledge exam, three case simulations, and the Writing Quality Decisions training Webinar.
To become a Certified Special Arbitrator, complete an Arbitrator Profile Form. Upon our receipt and confirmation of qualifications, you will complete the Special Arbitration Agreement and Rules examination, either the Auto Liability Claims Knowledge exam or General Liability Claims Knowledge exam, three case simulations, and the Writing Quality Decisions Special training Webinar.
To become a Certified Uninsured Motorist' (UM) Arbitrator, you must become or currently be a Certified Special Arbitrator Auto Liability (CSAA). You may then complete an Arbitrator Profile Form. Upon our receipt and confirmation of qualifications, you will complete the UM Agreement and Rules exam.
